| DESCRIPTION |
| 1999 Wrangler Sport - 4.0L Engine, with 5 Speed Transmission. Much has been done to maximize the off-road functionality of this Jeep. It is custom-built for daily driving and for showing off, off-road!Engine Modifications: Very few engine modifications have been made, because playing with the motor really can decrease off-road functionality. The stock engine has more than enough torque and throttle response for off-road use. I did however put a Banks Exhaust Header on, and before installing it, I had it ceramic coated, inside and out, for extreme heat conditions. This keeps the intake manifold as cool as possible and significantly increases the Jeep's ability to run well when the terrain requires a slow and steady speed. It also has a K and N Air Filter. That's about all I've done to the engine.Interior-wise: I've removed the carpet and installed a custom-fit, second switch panel where the factory ashtray went. This panel holds the ARB Locker switches and the road-light switch, with two blanks left. I planned on using the blanks for brake-line locks, but didn't get around to installing them. The factory top didn't fare too well after a tree mangled one of the bars that held it in place, so it has been replaced with a Safari Top Duster Cover, and a Wind Jammer. This combination will keep you warm and mostly dry in the rain. The Drive Train: This is where I could go on forever and easily forget something. My first upgrade was the ARB lockers, front and rear, matched to the 4.56 gears and alloy axles. Wow, what an improvement to off-road functionality! However, the strength (or lack thereof) of the factory Dana 35 was shown. After breaking three axles, I replaced the rear axle with a Ford 9-inch, 35 spline-axle (F-350 Super-Duty), custom-built by Sun Ray Engineering out of the Dallas area. The front and rear drive shafts were built by Tom Woods Drive Shafts (4xshaft.com). They come with a lifetime warranty and a collateral damage warranty on the u-joint if they break, anything damaged by the swinging drive shaft is also covered! The transfer case output shaft was replaced with a TeraFlex super short slip yolk eliminator kit, which also added about 2 inches to the length of the rear drive shaft. The belly-up pan was custom built to sit one inch below the frame, giving about half-an-inch more clearance than any other belly-up pan on the market. To compensate for the new angle the motor mounts were replaced with one inch raised motor mounts, although there is no body lift on this jeep. The transfer case shift linkage was also custom mounted directly off of the transmission to ensure smooth shifting. The Suspension: In search of the best suspension system out there, I came across the TeraFlex MAX LCG Lift. Wow! What an awesome set up! Three-foot long control arms and triangulated uppers, which together eliminate the track bar, allows for unlimited travel!! Check out: TeraFlex Jeep Builder. The only differences I've made are the addition of JKS disconnects and some spring compensations for the larger 9-inch axle housing. The front end was noticeably lower than the rear, so to compensate the front springs are 8 inches tall and the rear are 5 inches. The Jeep sits level and can easily fit 37-inch tires, if not larger. It currently sports 33-inch tires, but only because they have lasted longer than I expected.Miscellaneous: The only things I haven't mentioned so far are: the front bumper, it's an ARB, with a Warn 9000-lb Winch (used exclusively for pulling friends out of situations), and the mounted 2 Hella Rally 4000 Pencil Beam 100 watt lights. The Jeep headlights have been replaced with Hella Headlamps, H2 Bulb, 85-Watt Low Beam, and 110-Watt High Beam. The gas tank skid was replaced with a Warn skid plate, with .25-inch thick steel and 2 inches more clearance. The Jeep also has neoprene seat covers, both front and rear.Price: My asking price for this Jeep is $19,495.00, | |
