| The first official meeting of the club, then called the Pennyrile Classic Chevy Club, was held on 14 March 1981. The club changed its name to the Pennyrile Classic Car Club on 7 January 1989. The club was established for the purpose of sharing ideas and encouraging the restoration and/or preservation of classic vehicles. The Pennyrile Classic Car Club is a family organization and membership is open to persons having a genuine interest in classic vehicles.The Charter Members and original Officers were: John Darnell, President; Jerry Stuckey, Vice President; C. D. Burkhead, Secretary/Treasurer; Earl Saltsman, Sergeant-at-arms; and Archie and Joyce Wells, Publicity. Members included: Paul Ashberry, A.V. Birdsong, Billy Combs, Larry Combs, Ronnie Dickerson, Anthony Durham, David Gamble, Charles Gibbs, Norman Lee, Randal Meacham, Don Morris, Mike Neighbors, Richard Reed, Avis Rennison, John Thomas, Ron Tomlinson, John P. Walker, Joe Woosley, Paul Young and Wayne Bobbett. Several of the original charter members are still current members of the Pennyrile Classic Car Club.The goals of the Pennyrile Classic Car Club are:To elevate the standards and preservation of classic vehiclesPromote interest in specialty cars and cultivate a spirit of cooperation among classic vehicle enthusiasts.Foster communication among members for the purpose of sharing ideas.Broaden friendship of those who have a common interest.Share ideas, opinions and knowledge.Membership of the Pennyrile Classic Car Club reflects the rich diversity of the community. It attracts people of both genders from a wide range of ages and backgrounds. This is demonstrated by the number of participants in the Summer Cruise-ins hosted by the Pennyrile Classic Car Club. The Club is entering its third year for hosting the Summer Cruise-in on the third Saturday night of each month, from April through October, at the K-Mart Shopping Center parking lot on Fort Campbell Blvd. In Hopkinsville, KY. Along with an evening of great-looking cars, trucks and bikes, participants enjoy free homemade ice cream, popcorn and the sound of '50s and '60s music. The names of individuals who register their car or cars are placed in a drawing for door prizes, which are given away every thirty minutes.In the past twenty-five years, in addition to fostering the preservation and restoration of classic vehicles, Pennyrile Classic Car Club has shown its support and continues to support the community through its support to the Rotary Auction, Parade of Pennies, St. Jude Children's Hospital, Project Graduation in Christian County and surrounding counties, and the American Cancer Society.As the Pennyrile Classic Car Club enters its Silver Anniversary, we the members pledge our dedication to the preservation of a part of everyone's history and to the support of our nation and community.Members of the Pennyrile Classic Car Club celebrated its 25th Anniversary with a banquet at the Holiday Inn, Hopkinsville, KY, at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, 4 March 2006. Memorabilia from the past 25 years was available for members to enjoy. |
